The Parc des Princes, PSG's number one option

The saga surrounding PSG's future stadium is accelerating. After months of deliberation and studies of various options, the Parisian club is resolutely leaning towards an ambitious solution: renovating the Parc des Princes and increasing its capacity to 70,000 spectators. Since Emmanuel Grégoire's election as mayor of Paris, this option has gained increasing traction in discussions, overshadowing the other alternatives considered so far.

A decision is expected by early November.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, wants a quick decision and aims for a resolution by early November at the latest. For Paris Saint-Germain, it is crucial to know where its future European and Ligue 1 matches will be played. The timing is tight, but the stakes are high: clarifying the project before the end of the year to calmly plan the club's future.

The reasons for this choice: attachment, prestige and modernization

Why the Parc des Princes rather than a new stadium or a move to an existing venue? The answer lies in several points:

  • Historical connection: The Parc des Princes has been the beating heart of PSG for decades.
  • Prestige of the address: Staying in Paris proper, in the heart of the 16th arrondissement, means continuing to exist in the light.
  • Essential modernization: With 70,000 seats, PSG intends to compete with the major European powers in terms of fan experience and profitability.

The argument is simple: an XXL version of the Parc des Princes means a renewed fan experience, increased revenues and a clear affirmation of the club's ambitions on the continental stage.

The political and financial stakes of the case

The future of the Parc des Princes is also a political puzzle. Discussions between the club and the Paris City Hall are far from smooth, particularly regarding rent and ownership. The recent arrival of Emmanuel Grégoire as mayor has revived the dialogue, as the Socialist politician is perceived as more open to a major overhaul of the stadium. For PSG, reducing the rent or buying the Parc des Princes would be a significant move, offering greater control over its facilities and revenue streams.

PSG and its stadium: an image and business issue

Having a larger stadium isn't just about sporting considerations. In modern football, matchday revenue and the commercial exploitation of the venue carry significant weight. For PSG, which aspires to remain among the elite, having a revamped, modern, and UEFA-compliant Parc des Princes is also an asset for attracting players, sponsors, and partners. The message sent to fans and the market is clear: the club has big ambitions and a long-term vision.

Key points: the Parc des Princes and PSG, a history under pressure

In its current form since 1972, the Parc des Princes has undergone several modernizations, but has never exceeded 50,000 seats. It has been the home of PSG since 1974, the stage for many memorable European and domestic nights. Faced with growing competition in Europe – many top clubs boast stadiums with capacities between 60,000 and 80,000 – Paris must evolve to remain competitive. The club's identity, so closely tied to the Parc, also plays a significant role. For the fans, it's impossible to imagine PSG without the Parc… provided it can grow alongside the club.
