PSG wins the European clash at the Parc des Princes
Paris Saint-Germain won one of the first major clashes of this edition of the Champions League. Facing a Barcelona side that had won its first eleven official matches of the season, the Parisians prevailed 4-2 at the Parc des Princes after a spectacular encounter.
Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha, and Fabian Ruiz scored for Paris. Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal twice brought Barça level, but the Catalans ultimately succumbed in a final stretch completely controlled by Luis Enrique's team.
Désiré Doué rewards Parisian dominance
PSG immediately put their opponents under intense pressure. In the third minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hit the post before a goal by Ousmane Dembélé was disallowed for offside. Joan García then made a series of saves to keep Barcelona in the game.
Paris Saint-Germain's dominance was finally rewarded in the 38th minute. Désiré Doué unleashed a precise shot from outside the box to open the scoring. Having already scored against Strasbourg a few days earlier, the French international is continuing his excellent form.
Barcelona returns thanks to Xavi Espart
After the break, Barça showed a more attacking side. Xavi Espart capitalized on a run behind the defense to equalize in the 55th minute. Making his first Champions League start, the 19-year-old full-back beat Matvey Safonov with a powerful shot at the near post.
This goal restored confidence to the Catalans, who then took greater control of the ball. Paris had gone through a difficult period, marked by the injuries to Marquinhos and Kvaratskhelia. Luis Enrique then had to reorganize his team amidst Barcelona's growing momentum.
Lucas Hernandez puts Paris back in the lead
Just when PSG seemed to be falling back, Lucas Hernandez put his team back in front in the 72nd minute. From a perfectly delivered corner by Doué, the French defender outjumped Anthony Gordon and headed the ball past Joan García.
Paris could even have extended their lead moments earlier, but Ferran Torres hit the post after a through ball from Achraf Hakimi. This lack of clinical finishing almost proved costly when Lamine Yamal equalized in the 79th minute after a burst of speed and a shot from a particularly tight angle.
Vitinha immediately responds to Lamine Yamal
The Parc des Princes barely had time to doubt. Two minutes after Yamal's goal, Vitinha restored PSG's lead with a superb half-volley from the edge of the box. The Portuguese midfielder, who had already scored from distance against Manchester City, struck again when his team needed it most.
This third goal definitively turned the game around. Barcelona had just made a significant effort to equalize at 2-2 and failed to absorb this immediate response. Paris regained control and exploited the spaces left by a Catalan defense forced to expose itself.
Fabian Ruiz finishes the job
Fabian Ruiz scored the fourth goal in the 86th minute. After a long passing sequence, Hakimi cut inside from the right side of the box before delivering a powerful cross into midfield. The Spanish player pounced to finish from close range and secure the victory for Paris Saint-Germain.
The scoreline rewards PSG's attacking superiority, as they registered fourteen shots on target despite numerous saves from Joan García. Barcelona had their periods of dominance and equalized twice, but Paris created more clear-cut chances and were more clinical in the decisive moments.
A major victory despite the injuries
The Parisian evening was marred by several injuries. Ousmane Dembélé left the field in the 20th minute after feeling pain in his left thigh. Marquinhos and Kvaratskhelia also came off in the second half, and the fitness of all three players will need to be assessed.
On the pitch, Paris continues its perfect run in the Champions League with three wins. After scoring six goals against Slovan Bratislava and four against Manchester City, PSG now has fourteen goals in three matches. Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered its first official defeat of the season five days before El Clásico against Real Madrid.
